UHCL educator brings psychology, practical experience to study of criminology

When Helen Jin was in high school, she joined a criminal justice club led by a police officer. She began learning about the justice system, the role of the police, the way victims participate in the investigation, and the interaction of all those elements in the courtroom. That’s when she decided that she would make the study of criminal justice and forensic psychology her career path.

Nearly 1,000 Hawks to walk at UHCL commencement ceremony

Nearly 1,000 University of Houston-Clear Lake Hawks will arrive at NRG Arena on Dec. 17 as students and leave as graduates as they cross the stage in two commencement ceremonies. At noon, nearly 450 students will graduate from the College of Education and College of Science and Engineering. At 5 p.m., 550 students will graduate from the College of Business and the College of Human Sciences and Humanities.

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Center for Executive Education has the remedy: “Super Saturday,” also known as “College 101,” is a workshop for high school students and their parents that will take place Saturday, Jan. 13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Garden Room of the Bayou Building.
Tibetan monks visit UHCL sharing Buddhist philosophy and rituals

Five Tibetan monks from the Gaden Shartse Norling Monestery in Mundgod, India made University of Houston-Clear Lake a stop on their tour of the U.S. to share Buddhist philosophy and demonstrate the construction of a sacred sand mandala to students, faculty and the community. Geshe Lobsang Wangyal,--Geshe meaning something equivalent to “Father” in the Buddhist faith and similar to a doctorate in academic terms—spoke through an interpreter about his journey through monastic life and his experiences coming to the U.S. for the first time.
