Anthropology prof and students win grant to study migrant health issues

Christine Kovic, professor of anthropology and cross-cultural and global studies, has been awarded a grant from Research Programs on Migration and Health, known as PIMSA for its Spanish acronym. The grant supports collaboration between a U.S. university and an institution in Mexico to better understand the factors and policies impacting the mental and physical health of migrants.

Hamman Foundation gift helps Bayou Theater continue renovations

The Bayou Theater at University of Houston-Clear Lake has undergone a series a significant renovations in the last two years, including new seats and a brand new entrance. Now, through a $70,000 donation from the George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation, which counts one of its top priorities to be promoting the arts, the Bayou Theater can begin a complete overhaul of one of its dressing rooms.
UHCL social work profs make list of outstanding practitioners

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Graduate College of Social Work at University of Houston, 50 GCSW alumni have been recognized as outstanding social work practitioners who embody the college’s vision of social justice. University of Houston-Clear Lake’s professors of social work Heather Kanenberg and Roberta Leal were named to the list and will be among the honorees at a celebratory event to be held Aug. 17.
