UHCL Institute to host second Low Carb Houston Conference

University of Houston-Clear Lake Associate Professor of Exercise and Health Sciences William Amonette and local interventionist cardiologist Dr. Nadir Ali are on a mission to introduce as many people as possible to the benefits of a low carbohydrate diet. Together, they are welcoming all to the second annual Low Carb Houston Conference at the UH-Clear Lake. The conference is hosted by the university’s Exercise and Nutritional Health Institute and will be held Oct. 24-26.

Back in 2007, when Deborah Griffin was at a neighborhood pool party, taking a neighbor’s suggestion to have a 50th anniversary homecoming party for the neighborhood sounded like a fun idea. After all, Timber Cove was no ordinary subdivision. Timber Cove had been home to four of the seven original Mercury astronauts who moved to the area to begin working on the newly-established manned space flight program in the early 1960s.

Artist documents destruction of Iraqi, Kurdish culture in exhibition at UHCL

Piers Secunda is an New York-based British artist who doesn’t use paintbrushes, so don’t expect to see anything on a canvas or piece of paper at his exhibitions. As an artist, he’s focused on using paint as the medium with which to capture the marks and the textures of violence inflicted by ISIS on Kurdish and Iraqi culture over the last decade. His exhibition, entitled “ISIS Bullet Hole Paintings,” will be on exhibition in the Art Gallery at University of Houston-Clear Lake from Sept. 12-Nov. 14.
