Kellie Simon felt that after eight years of teaching fifth grade science, she was ready for a change. As part of the requirements for her master of science in instructional design and technology degree program at University of Houston-Clear Lake, she completed a two-month internship at DRDA, a Clear Lake accounting and business-consulting firm – and was immediately hired as a consultant, after graduating in August.

Beginning this fall, University of Houston-Clear Lake will offer a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering to help meet industries’ growing demand for trained engineers. In a meeting Jan. 25, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approved UH-Clear Lake’s request to offer the degree program.
