Software development firm Flow-Cal Inc. continues its commitment to help local professionals succeed in their careers through its financial support of the University of Houston-Clear Lake Office of Career Services.

President of Flow-Cal, Michael Squyres, graduated from UHCL in 1985 with a bachelor of science in Computer Science. Ten years later he introduced the first commercial FLOWCAL software application to serve the petrochemical industry by providing hydrocarbon measurement technology.

In 2013, Flow-Cal first sponsored a charter interview room in the Office of Career Services.

“The university has played a big part in helping to staff and grow our company,” Squyres said then.

In February, it renewed that sponsorship for another three years. Squyres said that besides strengthening its partnership, it also raises awareness of the company’s recruiting efforts.

Squyres and his employees are longtime partners with UHCL in providing career-development services to students and the community, participating in job fairs, networking events, business etiquette trainings and mock interviews. Flow-Cal has also financially supported UHCL’s online career-planning tool to help students select majors and career paths.

For its role in assisting students find and follow their careers, Flow-Cal was awarded UHCL’s Community Partnership Award in 2015.

“Not only does our continued relationship with the school provide quality interns and quality staff, but it also helps us attract remote talent by offering convenient access to advanced degrees,” Squyres said when accepting the award.
