Microbiology, nursing, and software engineering students collaborate on COVID-19 grant

University of Houston-Clear Lake students and professors are engaged in research to meet the urgent need to understand the spread of COVID-19. Assistant Professor of Microbiology Michael LaMontagne, Assistant Professor of Nursing Karen Alexander with biology students, in collaboration with registered nurses in UHCL’s RN-BSN program and others, have begun the project.

UHCL Institute to host second Low Carb Houston Conference

University of Houston-Clear Lake Associate Professor of Exercise and Health Sciences William Amonette and local interventionist cardiologist Dr. Nadir Ali are on a mission to introduce as many people as possible to the benefits of a low carbohydrate diet. Together, they are welcoming all to the second annual Low Carb Houston Conference at the UH-Clear Lake. The conference is hosted by the university’s Exercise and Nutritional Health Institute and will be held Oct. 24-26.

UHCL’s Habitat for Reading program continues to provide home libraries

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Habitat for Reading program celebrates its third anniversary this fall, continuing to provide personalized, age-appropriate mini-libraries to children in Habitat for Humanity homes. The program’s purpose is to help develop and nurture a habit and love of reading, and build the literacy skills necessary for personal, academic, and lifelong success.

UH-Clear Lake breaks ground on new residence hall

University of Houston-Clear Lake held a groundbreaking ceremony June 12 for a 294-bed residence hall. The ceremony “formally marks another milestone in UH-Clear Lake’s 21st century transformation – all designed to better serve students and to enhance our role within our region,” President Ira K. Blake said. The residence hall is scheduled to open for the fall 2019 semester.

Ceremony at UHCL Pearland Campus celebrates construction milestone

University of Houston-Clear Lake officials, as well as representatives from Austin Commercial Project and PBK Architects, Inc. gather at a topping out ceremony for the Health Sciences Classroom Building on UHCL Pearland Campus, celebrating the completion of the structural phase of the project. The new $24 million, 69,500-square-foot building, scheduled to open in spring 2019, will allow for the expansion of the campus’ nursing and other healthcare programs.

Building professions: Health Sciences Center at UHCL Pearland Campus

A $24.6 million Health Sciences and Classroom Building at UHCL Pearland Campus is scheduled to open in spring 2019. The facility will allow UHCL to expand enrollment to its successful health science programs, notably the RN-to-BSN and Licensed Professional Counselors programs. Future plans include opening a satellite operation of UHCL’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.

University of Houston-Clear Lake Pearland Campus broke ground on a three-story, $24.6 million Health Sciences and Classroom Building that will allow expansion of programs in nursing and other healthcare careers. Scheduled to open spring 2019, the facility will eventually include a satellite operation of UHCL’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.
