Not a swim party, these young University of Houston-Clear Lake Kids U scholars are enjoying the fruit of their labor, solar oven-baked s’mores. The goggles served as protective equipment during a “soda geyser” experiment that paired Mentos with cola. The budding scientists were enrolled in the hands-on Science Camp class, Kitchen Chemistry, where they explored topics such as what makes food puff and sodas fizz, and prepared homemade root beer and yeast bread. Pictured (l-r) are: Sofia Linares, Evan Linares, Alexis Anderson, Michelle Cai and Carmen Sarmiento. The annual Kids U summer program runs through July with a variety of week-long sessions to choose from. For more information visit: http://kidsu.uhcl.edu.
