Schedule of events for Tibetan monks’ visit to UHCL

In a weeklong academic project sponsored by University of Houston-Clear Lake’s College
of Human Sciences and Humanities, the Sacred Arts of Tibet Tour will be visiting UH-Clear
Lake from Nov. 6-10. The Tour is comprised of Tibetan monks from Gaden Shartse Norling
Monastery in Mundgod, India, who will construct a sand mandala, deliver two public
lectures, visit classrooms, and at the end of the week, ritually dismantle the sand
mandala.
The week’s events are as follows:
- Nov. 6, 10 a.m.: Opening ceremony to begin construction of the sand mandala in the
Bayou Building, Atrium I.
- Nov. 7, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Public lecture in the Garden Room, Bayou Building. “Climate
Change and the Six Delusions: Buddhist Perspectives on the Environment.”
- Nov. 9, 6:30-8:30 p.m.: Public lecture in room 3326 in the Bayou Building. “A Day
in the Life of a Monk.” Sand mandala is completed.
- Nov. 10, 10 a.m.: Concluding ceremony and dissolution of the sand mandala in the Bayou
Building, Atrium I. Procession outside to return the sand to the natural elements.
