UHCL celebrates Welcome Back Bash Sept. 1
Students and alumni will celebrate the start of the fall semester and new academic
year at University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Welcome Back Bash Sept. 1, 5-8 p.m. in
the Bayou Building Front Circle, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.
The event is hosted by UHCL’s Orientation and New Student Programs and the UHCL Alumni
Association. Festivities feature food, games, giveaways, a photo booth, music and
vendors. A group photo of all present students and alumni will also be taken at 6:30
p.m. in Alumni Plaza.

UHCL Art Gallery – American abstract artists’ portfolio exhibition
Learn about the history of abstract art in the United States in the latest exhibition
at the University of Houston-Clear Lake Bayou Building Art Gallery, 2700 Bay Area
Blvd., Houston. The exhibition, which runs Aug. 31 – Oct. 20, will feature the 75th
edition of the portfolio of American Abstract Artists, a New York-based organization
dedicated to providing an outlet for abstract art.
For the first time, the portfolio includes digital work such as such as photos, scanned
images, and vector-based art. An opening reception for the exhibit will be held Aug.
30 from 5-7 p.m. in the Art Gallery. The exhibit is open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. –
6 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. to noon. Admission to the Art Gallery is free. Free parking
for the reception is available in the Visitor Lot or Student Lot D.

September Habitat Work Days
Would you like to help preserve and protect University of Houston-Clear Lake’s campus
environment? It just takes a few hours each week to help maintain the UH-Clear Lake’s
natural beauty by volunteering for Habitat Work Days. Meet Sept. 5, 12, 19, and 26
at 9 a.m. at the Environmental Institute of Houston, North Office Annex, 2700 Bay
Area Blvd., Houston. Volunteers are asked to aid in upkeep, including clearing paths,
cleaning the pond and other conservation tasks.

Cybersecurity Institute – ‘Cybersecurity and Cryptography’
Help protect your business from cybersecurity breaches. ‘Cybersecurity and Cryptography,’
a workshop offered by UH-Clear Lake’s Cyber Security Institute, will provide participants
with essential knowledge on common cyber threats and basic cryptographical methods
like confidentiality, data integrity, origin integrity and more.
The workshop runs Sept. 6, 8, and 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Cyber Security Institute,
located in the Delta Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston. Information-technology
professionals and programmers are encouraged to attend. The fee is $300. Call 281-283-3808
