Support UH-Clear Lake on #GivingTuesday, Nov. 27

Alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and the community are invited to support University of Houston-Clear Lake on #GivingTuesday, Nov. 27. The university is seeking to set a new participation record of at least 200 Hawks making a gift of $1 or more to any college, department, scholarship or program during a 24-hour period.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities. The day follows Thanksgiving and the popular shopping events, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, to kick off the charitable season of end-of-year giving.

In 2016 – the university’s first year to participate in #GivingTuesday – UH-Clear Lake raised about $13,400 from 110 alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends. The next year, 149 Hawks helped break a participant record and donated an additional $11,500.

All are invited to share their generosity and give back in support of UHCL by making a gift in person at the #HawksGivingBack table on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. in UHCL’s Bayou Building, Atrium I, or from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the new Recreation and Wellness Center, both at 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, or 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at UHCL Pearland Campus, 1200 Pearland Pkwy., Pearland, Texas. Participants can also give online at www.uhcl.edu/givingtuesday any time throughout the day.

Donors can make a general donation or specify where they would like their gifts to go. Some options to consider:

  • UHCL Priorities Fund – Used to respond to emerging needs and long-term priorities of the university, this fund allows the president to dedicate funds where UHCL needs it most.
  • Hawk Emergency Fund – Provides grants that can be used for any education related expenses. Students with demonstrated need will be able to pay tuition, replace destroyed textbooks, computers, or school supplies and even pay the costs of transportation and food.
  • Hawk Advantage Scholarships – Offered to incoming undergraduate students with unmet financial need, these scholarships provide the means and encouragement to get started earning a degree without delay.
