Scientists, advocates and experts in prairie conservation, education and communications met in University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Bayou Building June 2-5 for the 2019 North American Prairie Conference, hosted by the Environmental Institute of Houston.
Attendees discussed subjects including using livestock for prairie restoration, urban biodiversity, economic impact, cultivation of conservation awareness and action, native medicinal and edible plants and more. The schedule included six field trips designed to inform attendees of the ecology, culture and history of southeast Texas prairies.
Two of the conference sponsors – Brandon Belcher of The Nature Conservancy of Texas and Glenn Merkord of the Native Prairies Association of Texas Houston Chapter – are pictured above during a break between sessions. Below, UH-Clear Lake President Ira K. Blake welcomed attendees in Bayou Theater. For more about the conference, visit http://bit.ly/uhcl-prairie-conference.
