Monday, Nov. 8 is National First-Generation College Student Day, marking the anniversary of the day President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the landmark Higher Education Act in 1965. This legislation opened the door for many students to become the first in their families to complete a college degree.

Center for Executive Education's SAT prep course yields dividends

Although opportunities to prepare for the SAT and ACT were limited as many universities enacted test-optional policies, University of Houston-Clear Lake freshman Pavisha Sargunan opted to take an SAT prep class with the UHCL Center for Executive Education. Her excellent resulting score helped her earn a full-ride New Hawk Scholarship.
Behavior analysis program preps far beyond certification

Pathways to STEM Careers grant increased, extended

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $4,036,338 grant to University of Houston-Clear Lake targeting Hispanic/Latino/a/x and other low-income students in a STEM-related degree program. This new project builds upon the work of the "Pathways to STEM Careers" grant originally awarded in 2016 for about $3.7 million.
Hawk Launch builds community, helps students transition to college

The two-day extended orientation for new students included an overnight stay at Hunter Residence Hall, and the engaging experience helped her decide to live on campus.

Convictions limit employment prospects, and this is exactly the problem that University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Associate Professor of Humanities Shreerekha Subramanian aims to address.
