As “techies” continue to shift their interest from desktop devices to mobile devices, the trend toward goggles, headsets and other wearable devices continues to increase. Alex Haber, state/local government and education team leader Magic Leap, a spatial computing platform that integrates digital content into the physical world, will be demonstrating this technology at University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Alfred R. Neumann Library on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 9 a.m. - noon.

Pathways to STEM Careers grant enables student to receive research assistantship

Last year, as Sean Graham realized he was getting closer to graduating from University of Houston-Clear Lake, he decided he’d like to put a research assistantship on his resume. A visit with Associate Professor of Computer Engineering Hakduran Koc secured that position, made possible through a grant called Pathways to STEM Careers.
NASA Johnson Space Center, UHCL begin implementing Space Act Agreement partnership

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s history of collaboration with NASA Johnson Space Center began on the day its doors opened in 1974, establishing a permanent institution of higher education accessible to JSC staff, scientists and engineers. On Oct. 1, the two entities signed a new Space Act Agreement and Annex, confirming and expanding their partnership for the benefit of the community.

When Steve Eggleston first began attending college in California in 1999, he soon realized it wasn’t for him. Eggleston, a post-baccalaureate environmental science student at University of Houston-Clear Lake, had always wanted to join the military, so he dropped out and began speaking to an Army recruiter. But due to a medical condition, he had to apply for a medical waiver and was told it might take up to two years for the Army to process his request to join.

The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center hosted a dinner event at South Shore Harbour Resort ahead of the University of Houston-Clear Lake-SQCC Energy and Environmental Stewardship Conference earlier this month. The dinner and the conference were attended by a delegation of Omani diplomats led by Her Excellency Hunaina S. Al Mughairy, ambassador of Oman to the United States. The evening’s keynote speaker was His Excellency Salim Bin Nasser Al Aufi, undersecretary of Oman’s Ministry of Oil and Gas.

'Great day for all of us': NASA Johnson Space Center, UHCL expand partnership

University of Houston-Clear Lake would not exist had it not been for a request made in 1964 by then-NASA Johnson Space Center Director Robert Gilruth to then-University of Houston President Philip Hoffman to establish a permanent institution of higher education accessible to JSC staff, scientists and engineers. In 1974, UH-Clear Lake opened its doors, and in continued celebration of their shared bond, NASA JSC and UHCL signed the new Space Act Agreement and Annex on Oct. 1, affirming and expanding their partnership for the benefit of the entire community.
UHCL coding academy empowers girls in STEM, fulfills Texas workforce goal

For 25 Houston-area middle school girls thinking about a career in a STEM-related field, the Soaring Hawks Girls Code Academy at University of Houston-Clear Lake was an eye-opening week of designing, creating, and digitally innovating. For Texas Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez III, it was a chance to see the Texas Workforce Commission Grant that provided them the scholarship to attend the academy in full action.
