The Ocean
"The Ocean" is one of two public art pieces by Masaru Takiguchi that will be highlighted during a Public Art Tour hosted by UH System.

Art lovers can explore the art located at University of Houston-Clear Lake during a Public Art Tour hosted by the University of Houston System Friday, March 6, noon – 1 p.m. The tour is one of several that are held each month highlighting art at each of the UH System universities.

UH System Public Art Curator Mike Guidry will lead the tour, which will explore artwork by such artists as Pablo Serrano, Jason Makepeace, Peter Voulkos, Dorothy Hood and Masaru Takiguchi and Nick de Vries.

Guidry’s art career spans over 20 years. Prior to joining UH, he worked as the assistant registrar and curator of Traveling Exhibitions for the New Orleans Museum of Art. He has curated independent projects in Houston and New Orleans, and has served as a juror on numerous national public art panels.

This tour is just one of many events to celebrate the 50 years of Public Art of the University of Houston System (Public Art UHS), which engages academic and global communities in an open forum to promote dialogue about visual arts and its relevance to contemporary life.

Tours will begin in front of UHCL’s Bayou Building, with visitor parking available across the street from the entrance to the building. Participants are strongly encouraged to wear their walking shoes.

For more information and to RSVP visit UHS Public Art online.
