Blog: Art history prof speaks to Belgian students about UHCL's museum partnerships
October 14, 2019 | Sarah Costello
While in Louvain-la-Neuve, I was invited to give a talk for museum professionals and scholars from the local region. Musée
L, the university museum in Louvain-la-Neuve, has developed a number of projects with
scholars from the university. These partnerships are part of an effort to develop
stronger ties between the museum and the university. I spoke with them about those
efforts and about the various ways that Houston universities partner with our local
museums. I shared with them UHCL’s collaborative project with the Menil Collection (the Collections Analysis Collaborative), Assistant Professor of Art History Beth Merfish’s course at Space Center Houston, and my collaborative work with UH and the Museum
of Fine Arts, Houston. Although institutions vary widely between Europe and the United
States, we face some of the same challenges in designing these projects. My discussions
with colleagues here in Belgium have helped me envision new ways we can develop opportunities
for our students at UHCL.
