Blog: UHCL professors visit Kenyan university, share details of new partnership

Dr. Dawit Woldu (second from right) and I (far right) arrived safely in Kenya a few days ago to begin a one-month stint at United States International University of Africa. We spent Saturday exploring downtown Nairobi, the capital of Kenya and a major metropolitan center of 3.5 million. It is also the home to the United Nations headquarters in Africa. In the photo, we are having a traditional Ethiopian dinner with Dr. Woldu's friends.
USIU is an accredited university in the U.S., making a partnership between our two universities a very exciting opportunity for students on both sides. It means that UHCL students can take classes at USIU and their credits will transfer. We are here to establish a relationship with the faculty, teach, and help review their curriculum to ensure it's current with U.S. standards. Students from over 30 countries are represented on the USIU campus. I will be co-teaching a research methods class with USIU faculty, and Dr. Woldu, whose expertise is in medical anthropology, will be reviewing papers of students in the health sciences.
