Expansion of facilities, opportunities progress at UHCL Pearland Campus

Construction of the $24.6 million Health Sciences and Classroom Building continues
at University of Houston-Clear Lake Pearland Campus. The facility is scheduled to
open for classes in spring 2019. The campus, at 1200 Pearland Parkway, will expand
its healthcare-related academic programs, notably its bachelor of science in nursing,
which targets registered nurses who seek a degree.
Construction crews hosted a topping out ceremony April 19, which celebrated the completion
of the structural steel-and-concrete portion of the project. UH-Clear Lake President
Ira K. Blake spoke at the event, attended by Texas State Representative for District
29 Ed Thompson as well as administrators from UHCL Pearland Campus and UHCL. “We’ve
reached another critical milestone in the construction of this building, and we’re
anticipating the opportunities these enhanced learning spaces will afford for RN-to-BSN
students,” Blake said. “More opportunities await for those interested in licensed
professional counselor certification programs or in the Pearland Campus’ satellite
operation for UHCL’s Center for Autism and Developmental Center.”
As is the ceremony’s tradition, Blake, Thompson, university officials, representatives
from the Austin Commercial construction company and architects from the firm PBK autographed
one of the building’s steel beams.
