Incoming College of Business graduate students meet, network

Professors and peers welcomed newly enrolled graduate students in the College of Business
at a welcome event held Thursday, Jan 11 in the Bayou Building at University of Houston-Clear
Lake.
“It’s always our goal to help students be successful,” said College of Business Senior
Academic Advisor Hien Franklin. “This is a ‘meet and greet’ kind of event with a short
presentation on academic advising. We invited faculty, Dean Edward Waller, Interim
Associate Dean Dorothy Kirkman, and other academic advisors in the College of Business
to meet and talk with incoming students to help them network and become familiar with
the university and the people with whom they’ll be interacting in the College of Business.”
Franklin said that tables were sectioned off by area of study. Faculty teaching in
those areas introduced themselves to their new students. “It gave everyone a chance
to get to know each other and find out who their faculty members and academic advisers
were going to be,” she said. “It’s an informative, yet fun way to begin the new semester.”
