Meet faculty, tour campus, apply at UH-Clear Lake Open House

Freshmen, transfer, international and doctoral students are invited to discover all
that University of Houston-Clear Lake has to offer by attending Open House Saturday,
Feb. 10, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in Atrium I of the Bayou Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd.,
Houston.
“Open House is the premier UHCL event each semester,” said Tia Edwards, associate
director of admissions. “This is the only time students can apply for admission, take
a tour, meet with faculty from their programs, and mingle with current students all
at one time and in one place.”
She added that the event provides students with a chance to ask questions and consider
all their options at UH-Clear Lake, so that they can make an informed decision regarding
their educational career.
“This is also a great time to attend because students can bring family and friends
while they take care of the business of applying and getting admitted – something
that is not so easy during the week,” Edwards said. “Plus, we offer the $45 application
fee waiver and on-the-spot admission decisions for select students. The convenience
of that alone makes the trip worth it.”
Edwards said that although they do their best to convey important information to prospective
Hawks, not attending Open House means students might lose a valuable chance for prime
engagement activities with their future classmates and professors.
“When a student comes for a tour during the week, the student only gets part of the
picture: an admissions presentation and extended campus tour,” Edwards said. “Open
House gives the student an all-access pass to learn about student services and academic
programs from those who work in those areas.”
For those interested in pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, there is especially
good news: “We will offer a special introduction to our new Bachelor of Science in
Mechanical Engineering program, a session that is available exclusively at Open House,”
Edwards said.
Some programs offer on-the-spot admissions with appropriate documentation. For more
information and to register, visit www.uhcl.edu/open. To arrange for a large group or an accommodation for a disability, contact the Office
of Admissions at 281-283-2515 or openhousersvp@uhcl.edu at least one week prior to the event.
