The Environmental Institute of Houston at the University of Houston-Clear Lake will be offering a two-part training course focusing on Surface Water Quality Monitoring techniques. This course will cover methods and protocols outlined in the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Surface Water Quality Monitoring (SWQM) guidelines.
The one-day partial course taking place March 9, will cover fundamental techniques for TCEQ’s water quality and hydrological monitoring. The four-day full course, taking place March 9-12, will cover additional techniques and protocols for biological and physical habitat monitoring, emphasizing wadeable stream sampling techniques. Each course day will consist of classroom and field-based instruction designed to explain the theory and methodology of SWQM procedures with a hands-on component in local rivers and streams.
The cost of the partial course is $175 if registered by February 1 or $200 if registered by February 24. The cost of the full course is $600 if registered by February 1 or $700 by February 24.Registration is open now and closes on February 24, 2019.

The Clear Lake Association of Senior Programs continues its monthly schedule of events on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Garden Room of the Bayou Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.
The discussion, titled “Health and Wellness in Diverse Communities,” spotlights issues facing diverse populations and is presented by Karen Alexander, program director and assistant professor of nursing; Juliana Dean, assistant professor of exercise and health sciences and data science research director of the Department of Clinical, Health, and Applied Sciences; and Kevin Isserman, doctoral intern at Counseling Services, UHCL.

The name ‘Anthony D’Amato’ might not seem to be a very common one, but in the case of an Asbury Park, New Jersey-based singer by that name, it became a problem when he became confused with another singer with the same name at the same booking agency. With a new and unique name, Remember Jones, backed up by an 11-piece band, will perform his theatrical pop-soul songs with a throwback, storytelling vibe at UH-Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater Friday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Amato explained that for his upcoming performance at the Bayou Theater, he would be playing his original hits as well as a set reprising Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” album. “We call it, ‘Back to Back to Black,’ recreating that album and turning it into a theatrical concept show,” he said. “I sing the whole album. It’s a new perspective. I don’t change the lyrics, I don’t dress like her, and I don’t change the lyrics. It’s not a ‘tribute.’ But you will feel the same passion and energy as when that album was first heard.”
