UHCL Spring Open House March 24

Due to inclement weather during University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Spring Open House in February, a second event was added for  March 24, noon-3 p.m. in the Student Services and Classroom Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.

Prospective students and their guests can meet current UHCL faculty, staff and students who can answer questions about degree programs, financial aid, and more. Friends and family are also welcome to enjoy the music, campus tours and fun activities.

Students who apply for admission at the event will have their application fee waived, and some programs offer on-the-spot admission decisions with all required documentation. Freshmen, international and doctoral students are not eligible for on-the-spot admissions.

Autism Speaker Series to discuss token systems

Third-year graduate student in behavioral analysis Desiree Dawson will lead a discussion on how token systems can promote positive behavior from individuals with developmental disabilities. The talk will take place March 24 from 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. in room 1510 of the University of Houston-Clear Lake Bayou Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.

The lecture is part of the Autism Speaker Series, coordinated by UHCL’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities. Lectures are free and open to the public although registration is required in advance. To learn more or to register, visit www.uhcl.edu/autism-center.

UHCL Movie Night: ‘The Post’

Go back in time to when Katharine Graham took over the Washington Post as America’s first female publisher. Through her partnership with editor Ben Bradlee, the two risk everything to expose government secrets. The film stars Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. Afterward join a panel discussion of the movie’s central themes.

The presentation is March 24 at 7 p.m. in the Student Services and Classroom Building Lecture Hall at UHCL, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston. Admission and parking for the event is free for students with a student ID and $4 for everyone else. Free parking. For more information, call the Student Life Office at 283-283-2560.

Riyaaz Qawwali returning to Bayou Theater

Back by popular demand, Riyaaz Qawwali returns to University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, on March 31, 7:30 p.m. Hear the diversity of Texas music with the unique and vibrant sounds of South Asia.

The group represents music from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, fusing traditional native melodies with poetry for exciting spiritual performances. Presale tickets are $20 for adults and $8 for non-UHCL students. Tickets at the door are $25 for adults and $10 for non-UHCL students. Tickets are $3 for UHCL students with a valid student ID.
