University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Center for Robotics Software is hosting the third-annual Houston Robotics and AI Day on Friday, Aug. 3, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Bayou Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.
The event showcases current research into robotics and artificial intelligence and projects under way at UHCL, University of Houston’s central campus, UH-Downtown, Rice University and San Jacinto College. Topics include brain-machine interfacing, swarm technology, humanoid robotics, wearable robotics and more.
Besides the Center for Robotics Software, sponsors include San Jacinto College’s AI-Tech Labs, and Bridges to STEM Careers, a partnership between San Jacinto and UHCL, which receives support from the National Science Foundation.
Students and educators are encouraged to register to give a five-minute presentation on their current work. Poster presentations in these areas are also encouraged. Any interested individuals or groups are encouraged to attend but registration for spectators is also requested. Registration is free.

University of Houston-Clear Lake led the state of Texas for producing the most graduates to be certified by the National Association of School Psychologists in the 2017-18 fiscal year.
The NASP certified 12 UH-Clear Lake graduates during the fiscal year, topping the list of the 12 Texas institutions that operate school psychology degree programs. Across the state, NASP certified a total 58 graduates during this fiscal cycle.
The certification is the nation’s only professional credential acknowledging school psychologists who meet rigorous, nationally recognized standards. School psychologists who hold the NCSP certification demonstrate their commitment to the highest levels of professionalism, ethical practice, and continuing professional development.

UHCL Art Gallery hosts this year’s Clay Arts Museum and Educational Organization Emerging Artists Show, which showcases works of Texas higher education ceramics instructors and their students. The result is a unique display of varying artistic perspectives. The show continues through Aug. 2. Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Friday 9 a.m.- noon.

The 9 a.m. session is “1968: Worst Year in American History – Democratic Convention in Chicago.” This is the third in a four-part series about 1968. Between the Tet Offensive in January 1968 and the riots at the Democratic Convention in Chicago in August, we Martin Luther King Jr., Robert F. Kennedy – and our innocence.
The 11 a.m. session is “Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AOM) – A New Hope for Chronic Disease and Pain Management.” AOM has been used for thousands of years to treat conditions similar to the ones people experience today. The spread of AOM extends to many present-day hospital programs and healthcare institutions. You will learn about AOM, alternative medicine, mindfulness, and how we may implement them in our lives.
