UHCL fall BFA exhibition ongoing

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s fine arts students are presenting their work in an annual fall exhibition ongoing to Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the university’s Arbor Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.

UH-Clear Lake offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Design with concentrations in graphic design, studio art and art education. Each fall and spring, students showcase examples of their work – from textiles and sculptures to oils and multimedia. Parking for the exhibition is available in Lot G.

UHCL’s program prepares students to pursue such positions as: graphic artists, illustrators, advertising designers, animators, art buyers and consultants, art directors, art teachers, filmmakers and more. Find out more about the Art and Design program online.

Zydeco artist Terrance Simien at Bayou Theater Nov. 23

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater will feature Grammy-winning Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience on Saturday, Nov. 23, 7:30 p.m.

Simien is an eighth-generation Creole whose music is featured in Disney’s 2009 “The Princess and the Frog.” He brought zydeco music to wider audiences in 1986 in the critically acclaimed movie, “The Big Easy,” starring Ellen Barkin and Dennis Quaid.

Help keep UH-Clear Lake beautiful

Put your green thumb to good use with University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Habitat Work Days each Tuesday, weather permitting, beginning 9 a.m. in the North Office Annex, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.

Join other volunteers for important upkeep, including clearing paths, cleaning the pond and other conservation tasks at the weekly Habitat Work Days. For more information, call 281-283-3946, or visit the Environmental Institute of Houston page. Large groups, please call ahead.

Register now for language courses starting in January

Learn a new language and get personal attention from expert teachers in University of Houston-Clear Lake’s non-credit Foreign Language Program. Small classes and private tutoring are available for Spanish, Chinese, German, Japanese, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese and more.

Courses are also available for those seeking to improve their English conversational skills.
