All it takes is a few minutes for a skilled cyber attacker to ruin your personal credit, steal your personal information, or cripple your business. Take an hour on Wednesday, Aug. 16, to learn how to protect your personal life or small business from malicious attacks at the Cyber Security Institute at University of Houston-Clear Lake, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.
From 11 a.m. – noon, get expert, practical advice on how to increase the security of your digital assets. Learn how to view emails more securely, and get tips to safeguard web browsers, password techniques, set up two-factor authentication and more.
“Many seminars convey what attendees should be doing, but lack the ‘how’ of it,” said Brian M. Sudduth, training and lab coordinator for the institute. “This seminar will present the what-can-be-done – and how to better secure your network, information systems and online experience.”

Enjoy a fusion of Johann Sebastian Bach’s fugues and Astor Piazzolla’s Argentinian tango as University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater kicks off the 2017-18 season at 8 p.m., Aug. 31 with Mercury: The Orchestra Redefined, joined by Canada’s world music trio, Tango Boreal.
The performance, “Bach and Piazzolla,” will feature multimedia projections and theatrical production to bring the music to life. It’s the first of 10 concerts.

Participants will learn technology concepts and fundamentals of security technologies, including understanding security layers, authentication, authorization, accounting and more in the first of this four-part class. Students who successfully complete all four courses will receive a University of Houston-Clear Lake certificate in Network Management and Security. The course begins Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. in Delta Room 201, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston. Cost is $1,250.
