Short Takes
August 8, 2017 | UHCL Staff
Curtain goes up on UHCL’s 2017-18 film series
Enjoy an entertaining, inexpensive evening at the movies as University of Houston-Clear
Lake’s Film Series premieres “The Big Sick” on Sat. Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Student
Services Center Building lecture hall, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.
This funny, heartfelt and intelligent movie uses its appealing leads and cross-cultural
themes to prove the standard romantic comedy formula still has some fresh angles to
explore. Based on the real-life courtship between comedian Kumail Nanjiani and Emily
V. Gordon, “The Big Sick” tells the story of a Pakistan-born aspiring comedian who
connects with an American graduate student after one of his standup sets, but complications
arise. Tickets are $4 or free with UHCL student ID. Parking is free.
