International students who are already in the U.S. have until Nov. 1 to submit their application online for the spring 2017 semester at University of Houston-Clear Lake. Some graduate programs have separate deadlines.

Habitat for Humanity Work Days in November

Help keep University of Houston-Clear Lake’s unique, natural campus beautiful during Habitat Volunteer Work Days, Nov. 7, 14 and 28 at 9 a.m. at the North Office Annex at University of Houston-Clear Lake, 2700 Bay Area Blvd, Houston.

Join other volunteers for important upkeep, including clearing paths, cleaning the pond and other conservation tasks. ‘Dia de los Muertos’ celebration Nov. 1

Celebrate the traditional Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead on Nov.1, noon-2 p.m. in Atrium I of the Bayou Building, University of Houston-Clear Lake, 2700 Bay Area Blvd, Houston.

The holiday features altars created to honor and celebrate those who have died. Other activities include face painting and crafting. UHCL’s Dia de los Muertos is free and open to the public. CLASP lecture: economic development trends

The Clear Lake Association of Senior Programs Speaker Series continues with Bob Mitchell, president of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership.

Mitchell will give his perspective on the future of economic development trends Nov. 2, 5:30- 7 p.m, in the Garden Room of the Bayou Building, UH-Clear Lake.

Successfully coaching and motivating employees

With the diversity of today’s workforce, managers and leaders must know how to successfully engage with and motivate employees.

This course, as part of the Management and Leadership Certificate Program, is geared toward aspiring or newly promoted supervisors. Participants will learn coaching models, employee motivation theories, and strategies for career planning to be effective leaders in the workplace.

The sessions take place Nov. 3 and 18, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at UHCL, 2700 Bay Area Blvd, Houston. The cost for the course is $850 with group discounts available and participants must attend both sessions to receive credit for the course.

Bayou Theater: Riyaaz Qawwali

Hear the diversity of Texas music performance with the unique and vibrant sounds of South Asia as Riyaaz Qawalli performs for the first time in UHCL’s Bayou Theater on Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

With an ensemble whose members represent India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, the group fuses traditional native music with poetry for spiritual performances that teach others about love and devotion.
