UHCL professor honored by alma mater
University of Houston-Clear Lake Professor of Women’s Studies Kim A. Case was recently
invited to her undergraduate alma mater, University of Texas Knoxville, to give two
talks on inclusive teaching practices. While there, she was surprised with the university’s
Accomplished Alumni Award.
“The talk I gave to the Department of Psychology took place in the same room where
I took my first social psychology course, which started my journey to becoming a social
psychologist,” she said.
Case serves as UHCL’s director of applied social issues concentration within the psychology
graduate program. She is author of two books that focus on strategies for teaching
about identity, social justice and privilege.
Earlier this year, the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues selected
Case as recipient of the 2017 Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring Award. She shares
that award with a University of London professor.
