UHCL student blogs about ‘rewarding experience’ on Oman study trip

On January 6, our group visited the Grand Mosque in Muscat, Oman. The rugs, architecture, art and chandeliers were beautiful. We looked at the various art pieces influenced by cultures such as the Persians, Egyptians, Omanis and Indians. We also had the opportunity to ask Omani women working the information center about Islam and life in Oman.

We asked a very helpful Omani volunteer in the information center a lot of questions about men’s and women’s clothing, general principles of Islam, divorce, and about her own life story. She told us about how she became a volunteer at the center. She used a helpful metaphor to describe Islam, explaining that her religion helped hearts needing to charge from the source, just like a phone. She said we all had little princes and princesses in our hearts, and that we needed to be the light to guide other people. It was a rewarding experience!
