'Tonight Tonight' singer John King takes center stage at Bayou Theater

It’s a good thing John King grew up working rock construction jobs. Because his ultimate
goal was to become a country music singer, he credits that work with instilling the
work ethic he needed to fight for the career he wanted. He will share the country
music that inspires and moves him with music fans at the Bayou Theater at University
of Houston-Clear Lake on Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
King’s debut radio single, “Tonight Tonight” earned him his first Top 40 hit and was
the theme song for CBS “Thursday Night Football” in 2014. “That was a huge confidence
boost and from that point, my career met with what I would call success,” he said.
“It was all a positive flow after that. It’s an anthemic song and it’s great for sporting
events. It really took off for us.”
He advises his Bayou Theater audience to get ready for a high energy show. “I move
around a lot, like Garth Brooks and Kenny Chesney,” he said. “I like to interact with
the audience. I really don’t want you sitting down.”
Alongside his three bandmates, including his 24-year-old brother Andrew on drums,
King will perform original compositions, including “Tonight Tonight” as well as his
newly-released single, “Heat Wave.”
“I like to write about my real-life experiences with my family and I draw a lot of
inspiration from my fairy tale love story with my wife, whom I have known since I
was 15,” he said. “I let all that carry over into the audience.”
