More than 300 University of Houston-Clear Lake faculty, staff and alumni gathered
on Oct. 12 to celebrate the university’s 45th year as the region’s leading institution
of higher education, and to recognize Professor of Management Information Systems
Vance Etnyre, who received the 2019 Outstanding Professor Award, as well as Mary Anne Brelinsky and Phyllis Saathoff-Oliver, recipients of the Early Achievement Award and the Distinguished Alumni Award, respectively.
“Our alumni are the bedrock and the foundation of the way we take the university beyond
its doors,” said UH-Clear Lake’s Director of Alumni Engagement Carri Hill. “These three are special because they embody the success possible at UHCL. We have
a beloved professor who’s spent 40 years equipping students to achieve their professional
and personal goals, and we have two strong alumni women who have taken the education
they’ve received here and flown to great success.”
The celebration took place at UHCL’s Recreation and Wellness Center, which opened in fall 2018.
Saathoff-Oliver, Port Freeport executive director and CEO, earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting at UH-Clear Lake in 1985. Brelinsky, president of EDF Energy, received a MBA in 2000. Etnyre has been a tenured member of UHCL’s faculty since 1984 and has received
the university's Distinguished Professorship in Management Information Systems three times, and the UHCL Distinguished Teaching Award in 2013.
