UHCL faculty showcases programs, presents research to CCISD students, faculty
March 16, 2018 | UHCL Staff
Clear Creek ISD students and their families were invited to meet with University of
Houston-Clear Lake faculty and staff to learn about programs and take a tour of the
departments and growing campus Feb. 28.
Faculty from all four of UH-Clear Lake’s colleges showcased programs and shared information
exclusively with CCISD parents and families. Associate Professor of Psychology Christopher
Ward (shown) was one of several faculty members who held a “TED Talk”-style presentation
for students and parents. Ward’s presentation, titled “Why I Never Wake a Sleeping
Student,” reflects his main research interest: sleep and sleep disorders.
“Research conducted by students in my lab has demonstrated that sleep loss impacts
that biology of the brain and causes problems in the ability to learn new information
and recall that information later,” Ward told students and parents attending his presentation.
“Getting a good night’s sleep is very important for the academic achievement of kids
in school.”
