Professor of Behavior Analysis Dorothea Lerman at University of Houston-Clear Lake, gave the commencement address at the university’s 5 p.m. ceremony at NRG Arena on Dec. 15. Lerman is the director of the university’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.
More than 1,270 students, including 271 from the College of Human Sciences and Humanities, received their bachelor’s or master’s degree during the day’s events.
Lerman joined the UHCL faculty in 2004 and has secured more than $2 million in grants
and contracts to support her work.
“My advice as you go forward in the next phase of your life is to reach out to those who are different, take advantage of opportunities to bring people together of different backgrounds, to work together to solve these important problems,” Lerman said. “Because it is only when we are working together – with love and acceptance rather than with fear and hate – that we can make this world a better place.”
