University of Houston-Clear Lake Professor Bilingual and Multicultural Education Judith Marquez gave the commencement address at UH-Clear Lake’s noon Fall 2019 Commencement Ceremony at NRG Arena on Dec. 15.
More than 1,270 students, including 204 from the College of Education, received their bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or doctorate during the day’s
events.
Marquez joined UH-Clear Lake in 1989 as a visiting assistant professor of bilingual
education, English as a second language, and multicultural studies. In 2009, she became
a full, tenured professor, and since 2015, she has served as department chair of Counseling, Special Education and Diversity in the College of Education.
“As I have continued my career at UHCL, mentoring has been very important to me,”
Marquez said. “I have mentored several people, including faculty and students at UHCL
and in other venues. Being a mentor is a way of passing on what you’ve learned and
helping others succeed. It is so rewarding seeing someone who you have mentored be
successful.”
Commencement speakers receive a commemorative plaque. Pictured with Marquez are UHCL President Ira K. Blake and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost Steven Berberich.
