STEM and Classroom Building
State Reps. Dennis Paul and Ed Thompson and state Sen. Larry Taylor assisted University
of Houston-Clear Lake President Ira K. Blake and former President William A. Staples,
UHCL administrators and community friends in the official ribbon-cutting reception
for the university’s STEM and Classroom Building. The building features 15 teaching
labs for physics, chemistry, geology, industrial hygiene, environmental safety classes
as well as the new mechanical engineering degree program classes. Other highlights
of the 121,575-square-foot building include an astronomy observation deck and specialty
rooms for computer-aided drafting and 3-D printing.
Recreation and Wellness Center
University of Houston-Clear Lake President Ira K. Blake welcomed and thanked state
Reps. Dennis Paul and Ed Thompson and state Sen. Larry Taylor at the ribbon-cutting
and special reception for the university’s Recreation and Wellness Center. In addition
to the legislators, Blake greeted students, community friends, and former and current
university administrators. The 81,709-square-foot building includes a three-lane elevated
indoor running track, two regulation-sized basketball courts and three state-of-the-art
research labs. Other highlights include weight and cardio spaces, a multi-activity
court, classrooms and open/private study spaces. Funding for the Recreation and Wellness
Center comes from student service fees, made possible by a 2016 student-approved referendum.
