UHCL welcomes new associate vice president for facilities management and construction

Eric I. Herrera began began his role as the new Associate Vice President for Facilities Management and Construction. UHCL President Ira K. Blake named Herrera to the position in late September.

Herrera will oversee the management of facilities maintenance, planning and operations on campus, including facility development projects, preventative maintenance, utilities and landscaping. He will also serve as the lead adviser to the Division of Administration and Finance on issues affecting campus construction and renovations.

With 17 years of management experience at both medical and non-medical institutions, Herrera most recently served as the director of Engineering at Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he oversaw the physical plant, planning, design and construction activities for the Hospital, Medical Plaza, and Convenient Care Center. He was also responsible for the strategic direction of operations, finance and personnel for the Security, Engineering and Biomedical Engineering departments. Prior positions include time at the Texas Medical Center, Texas Children’s Hospital and Reliant Park (now NRG Park).

Herrera earned his Master in Business Administration in 2012 from Texas Women’s University and a bachelor’s degree from University of Houston in 2009. He holds certificates in Healthcare Facility Management, Healthcare Compliance and Professional Maintenance Management and Certified Plant Maintenance Manager.
