December 28, 2017 | UHCL Staff
University of Houston-Clear Lake Professor of Philosophy Keith M. Parsons delivered
the afternoon commencement address for fall 2017 graduates on Dec. 17 at NRG Arena,
Houston. He encouraged students to commit themselves to lifelong learning and added
his own spin to an age-old adage: “Ignorance is never blissful,” he said. Parsons
is author of several books on religion, philosophy and history. His work in teaching
has earned him a UHCL nomination for the Piper Teaching Award, a statewide recognition
honoring excellence in teaching. The afternoon ceremony graduated 550 students from
UHCL’s College of Business and the College of Human Sciences and Humanities. A noon
ceremony saw nearly 450 students graduate from the College of Education and College
of Science and Engineering. Parsons is flanked by Professor of Psychology Rick Short,
dean of the College of Human Sciences and Humanities, and UHCL President Ira K. Blake.
