NASA strategist, virtual reality pioneer, technologist joins UHCL

Evelyn R. Miralles spent her career at NASA helping astronauts prepare for space missions. She is an internationally recognized pioneer in the field of virtual reality, who co-created spacewalk training software, in use since 2000. On May 1st, she launched a new flight path as Associate Vice President for Strategic Information Initiatives and Technology at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
Artist finds connection in random objects, exhibits at UHCL Art Gallery

Kristy Peet, who is a professor of visual arts at College of the Mainland in Texas City, said she frequently submits her works to art exhibitions because she believes that being a practicing artist is essential for teaching art. That’s why she submitted her work to the Community College Faculty Arts Show at University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Art Gallery, opening May 23.
UHCL Pearland facility formally opens to meet growing demand for nurses, health care careers

University of Houston-Clear Lake at Pearland celebrated the grand opening of the three-story, $24.6 million Health Sciences and Classroom Building that will allow expansion of programs in nursing and other health care careers. Speakers at the event that included UHCL leadership, legislators, city leadership, faculty and others said that the completion of this project was the result of close cooperation between UHCL and the city of Pearland and the tireless support of local and state legislators.

Professor selected as UHCL nominee for Piper Award

Lecturer of Literature and the First-Year Experience Wanalee O. Romero was selected as University of Houston-Clear Lake’s 2018-19 nominee for the prestigious Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation’s Piper Professor Award. University administrators recognized UHCL finalists and the UHCL nominee for the state award during a special luncheon.
Excellent campus safety rating a collaborative effort between police, community

It’s becoming more important for college campuses to have excellent security in place to let students and the community know they are proactively working to maintain a safe living, working and learning environment. On a list of 25 colleges, BestColleges.com ranked University of Houston-Clear Lake as 15th in the nation for best campus security. No other Texas college or university made the ranking.
Social work professor models work in action to students, community

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Assistant Professor of Social Work Roberta Leal was nearly finished with her undergraduate degree in psychology when she took an introduction to social work class. She’d always known she wanted to be in a “helping” profession, but on the first day of that particular class, she knew exactly the way her “help” would manifest itself.

UHCL spring commencement ceremonies May 19 at NRG Arena

Over 1,200 University of Houston-Clear Lake students are expected to cross the stage at two commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 19, at NRG Arena, 1 NRG Park. Houston. A total of 715 will receive bachelor’s degrees; 479 will receive their master’s degree and 10 will receive their doctorate.

Latino organization recognizes UHCL's Leal as Social Worker of the Year

The Latino Social Workers of Greater Houston Network presented University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Roberta Leal, assistant professor of social work, with the organization’s annual Social Worker of the Year award at an event held in Houston on March 28.
