For video-game fanatics, getting paid to play is the ultimate dream. While University of Houston-Clear Lake students majoring in digital media studies, didn’t actually get paid, they won a prestigious award for creating a video game titled “Code of Aegis” at the Interservice/Industry Training Simulation and Education Conference recently held in Orlando, Fla.

University of Houston-Clear Lake received 17 top-10 rankings nationwide from three organizations that rate the best colleges for academics, value and student success and other metrics that help students decide where to go to school. Two of the organizations also break out rankings by state. UH-Clear Lake garnered five spots in top-10 rankings for best in Texas.

In 2014, Ronnie Daruwala began his freshman year at a large university in Texas as a biotechnology major. He soon found out that he didn’t think he could be successful there. Coming from a small high school in Pasadena, Daruwala, a 26-year-old Friendswood resident, said he felt lost and began dreading going to class. After trying to make a go of it for two years, he said there were a couple of “last straw” episodes that convinced him it was time to transfer to University of Houston-Clear Lake.

UHCL fall commencement ceremonies Dec. 16 at NRG Arena

Over 1,050 University of Houston-Clear Lake students are expected to graduate this semester. Of those, approximately 892 plan to cross the stage at two commencement ceremonies on Sunday, Dec. 16 at NRG Arena, 1 NRG Park, Houston. A total of 667 will receive bachelor’s degrees, 377 will receive master’s degrees, and 12 will receive doctorate degrees. Additionally, 164 of 294 summer 2018 graduates plan to receive their diplomas at this commencement ceremony.
