UHCL profs ready to support students' transition to online learning

Along with most other colleges and universities in the country, University of Houston-Clear Lake is adapting quickly to transition every student to online learning, thanks to COVID-19. Although distance learning has been an option for many years at UH-Clear Lake, Assistant Professor of Writing and Digital Rhetoric Christal Seahorn and Assistant Professor of Chemistry Anton Dubrovskiy believe that the entire student community can continue moving toward its academic goals, despite the challenges.

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Associate Vice President for Strategic Information Initiatives and Technology was invited to attend the second National Hispanic Leadership Summit at the United Nations in New York in December. The conference was the culmination of We Are All Human Foundation’s yearlong agenda of regional summits and international events to discuss the action plan for Vision 2020: education, financial empowerment and perception change.
Neumann Library hosts discussion on virtual and augmented futures

The Neumann Library at University of Houston-Clear Lake will be hosting a panel discussion entitled “Virtual and Augmented Futures,” spotlighting augmented and virtual reality and their implications for teaching, learning and future careers. The event, to be held Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 2-3:30 p.m. is comprised of seven experts in fields including technology, software engineering, psychology and digital media.
UHCL alumna, former NASA engineer to lead Common Reader discussion

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Common Reader Program is launching its first event of the semester, entitled “A Conversation with Spare Parts’ Lisa Spence and Special Guests” on March 3 from 12-1:30 p.m. in the Forest Room. The book “Spare Parts: Four Undocumented Teenagers, One Ugly Robot, and the Battle for the American Dream” by Joshua Davis, is this year’s Common Reader selection with the goal of creating community connections among students, as well as between them and their professors.

Alex Haber, state/local government and education team leader Magic Leap, a spatial computing platform that integrates digital content into the physical world, will be demonstrating this technology at University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Alfred R.
