UHCL Family Art Day brings families together with free events, crafts and fun

One of Alex Malone’s missions as managing director of University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater is to offer more family-friendly events to make the arts more accessible to the community. UH-Clear Lake’s inaugural Family Art Day, to be held in the Bayou Building on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 1-4 p.m., is the first of what Malone hopes will become a monthly Clear Lake tradition.

University of Houston-Clear Lake will recognize this year’s Alumni Association Awards recipients at the 2018 Alumni Celebration Saturday, Oct. 20, at South Shore Harbour Resort, 2500 South Shore Blvd., League City, Texas. Guests will enjoy dinner and mingling with the UHCL community, which include this year’s three recipients of Distinguished Alumni awards and two recipients of Outstanding Professor awards.

On Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m., folk multi-instrumentalist and headliner Graeme James, a New Zealander, will share the stage with Alex Preston, a third-place finalist from the 13th season of “American Idol.”

'America's Got Talent' finalist to share her perfect pitch, positivity at Bayou Theater

Mandy Harvey has been musical all her life. She had seen shows like “America’s Got Talent” before, but didn’t have the confidence to audition. When she was offered the opportunity to try out for season 12 of NBC’s hit talent show, she finally did. She was the fourth-place finalist, and won a highly coveted Golden Buzzer from arguably one of the show’s most challenging judges, Simon Cowell. On Oct. 24, she’ll move her fans with her original pop and jazz songs at the Bayou Theater at University of Houston-Clear Lake.
