UHCL Alumni Celebration to honor pillars of industry, community

University of Houston-Clear Lake's 2017 Alumni Celebration will honor four graduates and a professor for their extraordinary accomplishments and ongoing contributions to their professions, the university and the communities they serve.

The event is Saturday, Oct. 7 at South Shore Harbour Resort & Conference Center, 2500 South Shore Blvd., League City, Texas.

The program will honor recipients of awards for Distinguished Alumni, Early Achievement and Outstanding Professor. Distinguished Alumni honorees include:

  • Denise S. Navarro, founder and CEO of Logical Innovations Inc., which provides software, information-technology security and management services to NASA and other agencies.
  • Estella Hernández Gillette, who joined Logical Innovations as a consultant after a long career at Johnson Space Center.
  • Michael Squyres, founder and president of Flow-Cal Inc., which provides software systems for the global energy industry.

The Early Achievement Award honoree is Michael D. Larrañaga, principal consultant for Ramboll Environ Inc., a global company that provides environmental, sustainability and public health strategies.

This year’s Outstanding Professor is Daniel Silversmith, associate professor of humanities who joined the UHCL faculty in 2004.
