UHCL Police Department receives international accreditation

The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators Accreditation Commission has approved a four-year accreditation for the University of Houston-Clear Lake Police Department, Police Chief Allen Hill said.

The association represents campus public safety leaders at more than 1,200 institutions of higher education and offers accreditation to colleges and university law enforcement, security, and public safety departments. Accreditation constitutes recognition that a department conforms to the highest professional standards for campus law enforcement and protective services.

In 2012 the UHCL PD became accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and was the first police department in the UH System to receive accreditation.  In 2015, the UHCL PD was re-accredited through CALEA.  “In 2017, I decided that IACLEA Accreditation would better serve the needs of the police department,” Hill said. “So the department began the process of switching accrediting agencies.”

In honor of receiving this accreditation, IACLEA will include the UHCL PD patch in an article for the Campus Law Enforcement Journal and will include it as part of an awards ceremony at its annual conference in Orlando.
