UHCL honors veterans at ceremony

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater and Bay Area Houston Ballet and Theatre have teamed up to create and co-produce “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka,” a fully staged, singing, dancing classic musical tale of a chocolatier looking for the next visionary to take over his candy empire.
The musical is adapted from Dahl’s 1964 classic children’s novel, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Santa Fe High School choir teacher Gunnar Tietge is in the title role of Willy Wonka.
Theater-goers have eight performances to choose from April 4-7 and April 12-14. Premium seating is $32 for adults, $20 for students. Standard seating is $24 for adults, $13 for students.
Tuesdays are Habitat Work Days at University of Houston-Clear Lake when volunteers help beautify campus grounds by weeding and mulching flower beds, planting native plants, maintaining pathways and trimming trees and bushes.
Habit Work Days are held weather permitting on every Tuesday that UH-Clear Lake is open. Volunteers gather at Environmental Institute of Houston’s North Office Annex 2 and work 9-11 a.m. For more information, call 281-283-3950.
University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Friday Morning Continuing Education spring lecture series continues April 5 with two presentations.
At 9 a.m., Brian Mills, director for campus recreation and wellness will present “Finding a Path Toward a Healthier You,” a discussion on how to begin your wellness journey at any age.
At 11 a.m., Rebecca Huss-Keeler, associate professor of early childhood education, discusses how to get started exploring your family’s history in the session, “Digging up Your Roots.”

Area physics and STEM teachers can get helpful tips on what they can do to help students succeed in the classroom from University of Houston’s Donna Stokes on April 8, as UH-Clear Lake’s spring Physics Lecture Series continues.
Stokes is an associate professor of physics at University of Houston and is also involved in physics education research. She currently serves as the undergraduate academic adviser and faculty adviser for UH’s physics department.
The lecture series is 7 p.m. each Monday through April 29 in room 1203 of the STEM and Classroom Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston. The lectures are free.
