Friday Morning lectures: Van Gogh, grandparenting

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Friday Morning Continuing Education spring lecture series continues April 12 with two presentations.

At 9 a.m., Marchita Mauck, professor emerita of art history from Louisiana State University, will discuss Vincent Van Gogh’s works, life and contributions to the art world.

At 11 a.m., learn about how grandparents’ evolving roles in the lives of their grandchildren from Amber Brown, assistant professor of early childhood education, and Denise McDonald, professor of curriculum and instruction. Learn how you can help support your grandchild’s development and learning through natural everyday interactions.

Physics Lecture Series: ‘Materials at Nanoscale’

Oomman Varghese, University of Houston associate professor of physics, will present “Materials at Nanoscale: Some Unique Properties Relevant to Energy and Clinical Applications” at UH-Clear Lake’s Physics Lecture Series on April 15.

Varghese’s research is primarily focused on developing nanoscale materials and heterostructures and investigating their unique properties useful for energy conversion and medical applications. For his efforts, he has been consistently recognized as among the world’s top materials scientists.

The lecture series is 7 p.m. each Monday through April 29 in room 1203 of the STEM and Classroom Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston. The lectures are free.
