UHCL’s women-only storytelling class to return Oct. 16
If you missed the summer session of University of Houston-Clear Lake’s “Write on, Women!” storytelling class, the course will return in October, taught by author and playwright Deborah Nowinski, recipient of the Texas Office of the Governor’s Barbara Jordan Media Award for her book “Your Role in Inclusion Theater.”
Learn how to write your memoir or family history in this six-week, women-only class each Wednesday, beginning Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. – noon, through Nov. 30. The course fee is $156. Seating is limited to the first 15 registrants. Registration and pre-payment is preferred.

Tuesdays Habitat Work Days at UHCL
Is environmental sustainability important to you? Join other volunteers on University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Habitat Work Days each Tuesday beginning 9 a.m. in the North Office Annex, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.
UH-Clear Lake’s main campus is a 524-acre natural habitat – home to white-tailed deer, hawks, herons and other wildlife. Horsepen Bayou bisects the campus.

Bayou Theater to host ‘MoonStrike’ by Apollo Chamber Players
Honoring the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo moon landing, the Apollo Chamber Players will offer a special performance titled “MoonStrike” at University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater on Sept. 28, 7:30 p.m.
The concert features Emmy-winning Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate and Chickasaw astronaut Cmdr. John Herrington, the first member of a Native American tribe to fly in space, joining as narrator and special guest.
“‘MoonStrike’ is a new commission for string quartet inspired by Native American moon legends and astrology that perfectly connects with our mission to perform music reflecting the culture of indigenous people of America,” said Matthew Detrick, executive and artistic director of the Apollo Chamber Players. “It’s fascinating how connected Native American culture is to astrology, the moon, and the natural elements of the world. It’s a perfect connection to make.”

UHCL offers one-to-one tutoring for students in grades 1-12
University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Center for Educational Programs is offering one-to-one tutoring for reading, writing, spelling and study skills improvement for students in grades one through 12. Tutors are upper division College of Education students supervised by highly qualified university faculty.
The center administers diagnostics tests, as necessary, to each student accepted for tutoring to determine specific strengths and needs. Parents are kept apprised of progress through meetings.
Sessions are 4:30-6 p.m. on Mondays: Sep. 23, 30; Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28; Nov. 4, 11 and a make-up session on Nov. 18; or on Tuesdays: Sept 24; Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; Nov. 5, 12 and a make-up session on Nov. 19.
Classes are in Suite 1300.01 of the Arbor Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston. The price is $300 per student. Find out more or register for tutoring online.
