UHCL honors veterans at ceremony

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s University Staff Association (USA) is hosting a three-day Harvest Fair in Bayou Building Atrium II, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston. Proceeds help fund the association’s events throughout the year.
From Tuesday, Oct. 30 through Thursday, Nov. 1, buy jewelry, clothing, crafts and edible treats. The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Admission and parking are free.
The public is invited to the grand opening of University of Houston Clear Lake’s new
Exercise and Nutritional Health Institute on Thursday, Nov 1 at 5:30 p.m. in the state-of-the-art
Recreation and Wellness Center, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.
The institute conducts community-based research, education and training designed to
improve the health of individuals in Bay Area Houston. It is just one of many of UHCL’s
efforts to improve the health of the community.

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Friday Morning Continuing Education continues at
9 a.m. on Nov. 2 with the final class of the four-part series “1968: The Worst Year
in American History.”
The lecture focuses on the presidential election that followed a year of civil unrest,
violent riots and the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy.
At 11 a.m., take an in-depth look into security features on Facebook and other social
media platforms. Bring your devices to set up your accounts and make sure your settings
are protecting your privacy.
The cost for each class is $18 after a $26 membership fee. To register or for more

See the romantic comedy “Crazy Rich Asians” on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in University
of Houston-Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston. Discuss the film
afterward with Professor Emeritus of Literature John Gorman.
The box-office blockbuster is an adaptation of a novel by alumnus Kevin Kwan, who in an interview credits Gorman and other UHCL professors for his success. The
movie is free with a UHCL ID, all others $4. Parking is free.
