UHCL honors veterans at ceremony

Want to know more about becoming a University of Houston-Clear Lake Hawk? Prospective students and their families are invited to tour UHCL’s 524-acre campus in a one-hour walking tour led by current UHCL students July 14, 10 a.m. – noon.
Attendees will also receive information about applying to the university. Featured stops on the tour include Alfred R. Neumann Library, the UHCL Art Gallery, and natural features such as Potter Pond and Horsepen Bayou. Well received by critics and audiences throughout Europe, the 2016 comedy “Lost in Paris,” will be presented Saturday, July 15, 7 p.m., as part of University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Film and Speaker Series. The showing moves up a week from its originally posted date.
The presentation is in the Student Services and Classroom Building lecture hall, 2700 Bay Area Blvd. Foreign Language and Continuing Education Programs Director Christine Paul will provide a “petite French lesson” before the film. University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Friday Morning Continuing Education’s summer mini-session continues July 14 with the storming of the Bastille – 228 years to the day when French revolutionaries dismantled the King Louis XVI’s royal prison to start French Revolution. Learn more about the personalities, politics and propaganda that changed the course of history. Begin the day with a lecture on how to plan the perfect Paris vacation in order to take in all the historical sites.
“Is a Paris Adventure in Your Future?” begins at 9 a.m. “French Revolution and the Age of Pamphleteers” starts at 11 a.m. The lectures are in the Bayou Building Patio Café, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.

Help maintain the beauty of the UH-Clear Lake campus by volunteering at Habitat Work Days Tuesday mornings in July with the Environmental Institute of Houston. Volunteers will meet to assist in upkeep, including clearing paths and other conservation tasks at 9 a.m. on July 11, 18 and 25 at the North Office Annex, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.

Learn how to recognize and resolve miscommunications in the two-part course, “How to Improve your Leader Communication Skills,” to be held July 14 and 28, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., at University of Houston-Clear Lake, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.
The course is part of UHCL’s Management and Leadership Certificate Program. “Effective Management of Supervisory Techniques” is a prerequisite. Participants must complete both sessions for continuing education credit. Course fees are $850, which includes both sessions.
