UHCL grad students' sculpture on display
Seven graduate students in University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Sculpture and Ceramics studio courses will display their works June 2 through Aug. 10. Sculptures include Natalia Gallagher’s 2016 “The Race” in glazed stoneware, steel and stained wood. The exhibit is in UHCL’s Bayou Building Art Gallery, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston. The gallery is free and open Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and on Friday, 9 a.m. – noon.


UH-Clear Lake grad students’ sculptures on display

Immerse yourself in 3-D sculptural artwork by University of Houston-Clear Lake’s graduate students in the latest exhibit in the UHCL Art Gallery, on display June 2 through Aug. 10 in the Bayou Building Art Gallery, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.

Curated by Clay Leonard, assistant professor of art, the exhibit highlights the research interests of seven graduate students in Sculpture and Ceramics studio courses: Natasha Gallagher, David Gonzalez, Holly Gottula, David Moya, Wyatt Schultz, Margaret Solomon-Bird, and Colleen Steblein.

“The work was chosen to represent the diversity in expression and highlight each artists’ individual research ideas,” Leonard said.

Learn a new language this summer

Learn Italian, Japanese, French, Spanish or other languages in the Foreign Language and English Enhancement Program at University of Houston-Clear Lake. Classes begin June 5 and run through July 21.

Group classes are kept small, with a focus on conversational skills. Courses are taught by instructors fluent and with advanced degrees in the language they teach.

The courses cost $145 for the group sessions, $300 for five hours of private instruction or $600 for 10 hours of private instruction. All are offered noncredit, but continuing education units can be earned for successfully completing the course.

Tuesday mornings are for sprucing up campus

Help keep University of Houston-Clear Lake beautiful at Habitat Work Days each Tuesday morning in June with the Environmental Institute of Houston. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the North Office Annex, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, to assist in upkeep, including clearing paths, cleaning the pond and other conservation tasks.

Tour UHCL, learn about scholarships, admission

Transfer and graduate students can learn more about University of Houston-Clear Lake, apply and even receive on-the-spot admissions during the UHCL Admissions Preview June 15, 6-7:30 p.m., at the Student Services and Classroom Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.

Prospective students can participate in campus tours, attend financial-aid workshops and learn more about Undergraduate Automatic Transfer Scholarships. Friends and family are welcome to attend. On-the-spot admissions decisions are available for only certain programs, and applicants desiring to participate should bring transcripts and test scores.
