UHCL taps new director of student housing, residential life

Matthew Perry will join the Division of Student Affairs as the director of Student Housing and Residential Life, effective Jan. 14, 2019.  Perry brings more than 10 years of experience in university residential housing having served as hall director, area housing coordinator and associate director for Residential Education at the University of Toledo in Ohio.

"Matthew brings 10 years of full-time experience as a student housing professional as our new director,” said Daniel Maxwell, interim vice president for Student Affairs.  “I am excited about his vision for a comprehensive on-campus living program that partners our new residence hall with University Forest Apartments."

Perry’s diverse housing background will help build and develop UH-Clear Lake’s first traditional residence hall and the department of Student Housing and Residential Life.  His previous housing experiences include major facility renovations, resident education/residential curriculum, staff training, and the business operations of an overall residential program. He has worked in halls ranging from 650 residents to over 3,500.

Dean of Students David Rachita added, “We are eager to have Matthew join our team and enthusiastically lead us in the expansion of our on-campus living community with the new residence hall."

Perry will oversee all operations associated with the department including UHCL’s partnership with University Forest Apartments.  He will play a critical role in the final stages on the build-out of the new residence hall along with finalizing the departments programs, services, and protocols. Perry will implement a robust residential program with living-learning components, coordinate the housing and financial operations, develop the resident assistant program along with the selection and training of the new student leaders, and foster collaborative partnerships across UHCL for the betterment of the residential life program. The new residence hall is scheduled to open in August 2019.

Perry has a Bachelor of Science in Spanish from Wilmington (Ohio) College and a Master of Science in Education with a focus on Higher Education Administration from the University of Dayton in Ohio.
