University of Houston-Clear Lake alumna Roxane Richter has spent much of the last 10 years crisscrossing developing nations to improve their responses to disasters and mass casualties. She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from UH-Clear Lake: a bachelor’s in media studies in 1996 and a master’s in cross-cultural studies in 2007. “My UHCL graduate degree formed an important foundation for my global health care research and humanitarian aid work,” she said.

University of Houston-Clear Lake held a groundbreaking ceremony June 12 for a 294-bed residence hall. The ceremony “formally marks another milestone in UH-Clear Lake’s 21st century transformation – all designed to better serve students and to enhance our role within our region,” President Ira K. Blake said. The residence hall is scheduled to open for the fall 2019 semester.

Nearly 1,300 students graduated this spring at University of Houston-Clear Lake. Two commencement ceremonies were held on Sunday, May 20, at NRG Arena. Almost 1,100 students chose to walk across the stage.
UHCL biotechnologist eyeing damage to Gulf coral reefs

University of Houston-Clear Lake biotechnologist Lory Santiago-Vazquez is keeping close watch on the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, a system of coral reefs about 100 nautical miles east of Galveston in the Gulf of Mexico. The sanctuary provides habitat for many threatened and protected species – corals, sharks, rays, sea turtles and marine mammals – as well as several species important to the fishing industry.
Team wins second place at third-annual NASA Swarmathon

University of Houston-Clear Lake computer engineering students, in partnership with peers from San Jacinto College, took second place honors in NASA’s 2018 Swarmathon “Mission to Mars,” a competition to program robot rovers to simulate tasks they would encounter on the red planet’s rocky surface.

College students – including first-time freshmen – can graduate sooner by enrolling in summer sessions at University of Houston-Clear Lake, regardless which college they attend in the fall. Summer courses are taught during short four-week and five-week sessions, so students can save time and money earning transferrable credit hours, get individual attention from professors and take advantage of campus resources without a crowd. Financial aid is available for qualifying students.

Nearly 1,300 University of Houston-Clear Lake students are expected to graduate this spring semester. Of those, approximately 1,100 plan to cross the stage at two commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 20, at NRG Arena, 1 NRG Park, Houston. A total 582 will receive bachelor’s degrees; 480 will receive their master’s degree and 14 will receive doctorate degrees.
